Michael Mertz originally joined the firm’s Governmental Services Department in 2000 upon graduating cum laude with a B.S. degree in accounting from Rutgers University. Mr. Mertz is licensed as a Certified Public Accountant and maintained DoD Financial Management (FM) Level 2 Certification until his departure from the Department of Defense. Mr. Mertz recently returned to the firm after having served in financial leadership positions of increasing responsibility in the private sector for 6 years and then with the DoD, Defense Contract Audit Agency for 8 years. He now serves as Bowman & Company LLP’s Director of Federal Services. Drawing on his background as an auditor for the Defense Contract Audit Agency, Michael brings an insider’s perspective to his work with the Firm and applies his unique set of skills to help Bowman & Company provide world-class service to the federal government and contractors alike.
Michael specializes in compliance examinations and has extensive experience in audits of commercial, governmental, and not-for-profit organizations. He is considered a subject matter expert in federal cost accounting and development of cost allocation plans. As a former Supervisory Auditor for the Defense Contract Audit Agency, Michael is well versed in the process, needs, and execution of federal contracts, as well as the challenges
